About Movers and Settlers Founder, Dr. Phillip L. Baker
A dedicated researcher Dr. Baker in partnership with the Topeka & Shawnee County public library, has worked to provide a research center for Genealogists both local and national. In 2008 The Topeka & Shawnee County public library proudly announced the opening of Dr. Phillip and Betty Baker Genealogy Center to the public.
Genealogical History
Throughout his years as a Physician in the community of Topeka, Kansas, Dr. Phillip Baker has worked on researching and exploring his own Genealogical history.
Dr. Phillip and Betty Baker Genealogy Center are located within the Topeka Room on the library's second floor. The entire area is set aside as a space to focus on research.
The Baker Center
The Baker Center houses, in print or electronic form, or on microfilm, the following materials:
Topeka Room
Supplemental local history materials of use to genealogists held in the Topeka Room collection include the county and municipal histories, biographies, historic newspapers, and migration histories.
Computers, microfilm reader-printers, and a photocopier are all available in the Topeka Room. To ensure full access to the collection, librarians provide professional service 78 hours a week, all hours that the library is open.
Skydiving Accident
Phillip L. Baker, MD, orthopedic surgeon, was the treating physician. The following is a video of the accident and a video reenactment of subsequent medical care and recovery.
